Cat Haiku

Not my work, but a friends.

From Rocky, Cat Haiku

The food in my bowl
Is old, and more to the point,
Contains no tuna.

So you want to play.
Will I claw at dancing string?
Your ankle's closer.

There's no dignity
In being sick - which is why
I don't tell you where.

Seeking solitude,
I am locked in the closet.
For once I need you.

Tiny can, dumped in
Plastic bowl. Presentation,
One star; service, none.

Am I in your way?
You seem to have it backwards:
This pillow's taken.

Your mouth is moving
Up and down, emitting noise.
I've lost interest.

The dog wags his tail,
Seeking approval. See mine?
Different message.

My brain: walnut-sized.
Yours: largest among primates.
Yet, who leaves for work?

Most problems can be
Ignored. The more difficult
Ones can be slept through.

My affection is conditional.
Don't stand up,
It's your lap I love.

I don't mind being
Teased, any more than you mind
A skin graft or two.

So you call this thing
Your "cat carrier." I call
These my "blades of death."

Cats can't steal the breath
Of children. But if my tail's
Pulled again, I'll learn.

Toy mice, dancing yarn,
Meowing sounds. I'm convinced -
You're an idiot.

Strange how these are soo typical of a cat, yet to be called "a pussie" means a wimp.....

Thus, I say "thank you" when called a pussie. ;)

Hi Carolynn,

Smart piece of work that.

I was at a bbq last night. They had a cat which decided on a nap in the dark on the lawn. I was inches from standing on it. That spooked me, but the cat couldn't care less.

I also ate a lamb chop that was way undercooked in the dark.

Got a lot to answer for, the dark has

Love

Rebecca,
Methinks that there may be more to your bbq than you have shared!?
Love ya,

Cats don't just do that to humans, they do it to each other!

Hi Red Amanda!!!!! :) Glad you found my friend's work enjoyable.
You have some be-you-tiful friends there! They do appear to be lords of all they survey! :)

Lords? Funny you should say that, these are nicknames they've earned for their different personalities (clockwise starting at the grey cat) -

His Imperial Lordship
The Musketeer (aka Court Jester)
Her Royal Highness, The Princess

Your friend Rocky certainly knows cats! Most of the Haiku apply to all three of our moggies, though certain ones could have been especially for individuals...

'So you want to play' - the jester.
'There's no dignity' - his lordship.
'Seeking solitude' - the princess.

I must remember to make sure Cathy(SO) reads them, guaranteed to make her smile!
