Just reading all the posts and realized there is a big area missing. First of all getting your ears pierced be it male or female does not appear to be a big deal for anyone anymore.
Try to talk to people who have them to see where they went. I originally had two in one ear and one in the other. When I went out to take them to three on each I walked in without hesitation or butterflies. But back to the subject for someone going out for their first.
1.) The Piercing studs must be in a matched box set and each stud is enclosed in a sealed plastic container mounted in a holding cartridge. This is to ensure that the earring is sterile. The cartridge is fastened to the gun right at the time of the piercing. The clear hard plastic cartridge lines up the post to the clutch back and when the trigger is pulled the post is pushed through the ear and into the back in one swift shot.
2.) Buy a bottle of ear care solution when you get them done. This is a cleaning solution to help keep the hole clean while it is healing. Use it twice a day or more if needed and don’t be stingy with it. Soak a cotton ball and drizzle it on the earring while turning and moving it make sure to get both sides. It won’t stain anything so when it dribbles down the side of your neck, don’t worry. I have seen a couple of people with problems occur because they did not take care after the procedure. Remember the piercing is like a cut or scrape to the body. It has to be cleaned and allowed to heal. They had to remove the studs and take a prescription to clear up an infection. Needless to say after everything was cleared up and they wanted earrings they had to start all over. They took better care the second time. If you finish the bottle early get another.
3.) Remember to turn them several times a day. This prevents the skin from healing to the post of the earring. In the beginning it will be a bit painful every time you do it but after a few days it will stop. Four to five times a day. I find myself doing it when I am thinking it is a distraction.
4.) In the shower after you wash your face neck and hair, remember to pull the back of your ear forward exposing the clutch and rinse well moving the clutch around.
5.) Tip from experience: when drying your hair with a towel be careful not to catch the earring in the towel it can be a shockingly painful experience.
6.) After the six weeks you can start changing earrings. For the first six months I recommend to keep studs in at night when you sleep. When putting earrings in I soak the ones going in for five minutes in alcohol before putting them in to clean the earrings.
7.) Another tip when putting the clutch back on when you hear the click of the back in the grove of the post stop pushing. You don’t need to squash the clutch as close as you can to the front. The earring needs to move around.

If one leaves their earings out long enough, the holes will close up.
