Me, my girlfriend, and Begum Ali

Hi all,

I just spoke with Rina a half hour ago; she phoned me all the way from India (as she does every three or four days). We chatted about this and that; her trip; my heavy work load; how we loved and missed each other; the weather; her family over there; my family over here; and Begum Ali.

Rina says to me: "Dan, I have to tell you about this 'TV on TV' that's creating quite a stir here, in India. When I saw the show, I thought of you and I knew I just had to let you know. His/her name is Begum Ali, a talk show host that's Pakistan's answer to Dame Edna, attitude-wise. But much better looking. And much more controversial. There's a public outcry--'cause they're mostly Muslim here--to have this show banned. Check it out."

Well, I did check it out. Googling the name, I came up with several thousand hits. Begum is quite a looker. That this kind of, literally, in-your-face, TG'ism would fly in a Muslim country surprised the hell out of me. Here's one link among thousands:

Pakistan's She Magazine

Hope you enjoy it!

Love,
CJ

Edit: I just now surfed on over to the Transgender Topics area of the forum and saw that our own esteemed member, Leslie, beat me to the punch with a news article on Begum Ali, posted earlier tonight. How cool is that? =D> Thanks, Leslie, for the heads-up from a different source.

I think it is great, right up until the point hit me that now the "huddle, ignorant masses" in the West will now associate us with Muslim's and the next step it that of extremeists! That is not helping our cause, other than it shows that it is not a local, regional, or national phenoneum, Hell, we are world wide!!!!!
Thanks for the site,
Virginia

I think they might figure out that our type of extremism is a different brand from what Muslim extremists might be after, Virginia--at least, I hope they get that!

Thanks for the links, CJ. I have heard about Begum Ali, but it seems hard to believe that she's there. I know that Pakistan has tried to balance the secular with the Muslim, like Turkey has, but even "women born women" have an uphill struggle. It's amazing that a TG woman is so prominent!

Crossdressing in places like India or Pakastan isn't as uncommon as we'd think.
