Today was quite the day. You see a friend of mine who is really encouraging me to be more comfortable with my crossdressing and I have a date tonight. We've been trying to get together for over a month but since both of our schedules seem to be going in opposite directions it's been hard.
Well to make a long story short, one of the things that she wants to do is give me a total make over tonight. I'm real excited about this, but decided that I'd like to getting ready for it and look at cute as possible. Since she's a little larger than me she has quite a few things that will fit me and will have me try on. But since my fem woredrobe is quite lacking I decided to see if I could find something nice to wear. After a lot of searching, I found a nice dress at 60% off at Lane Bryant. Now, I've shopped at shops in DC that cater to crossdressers, but this is the first time I've gone out in drab since I moved. I also bought a pair of shoes at another shoe store, and in both stores the clerks were very nice. So now that I'm home, I tried them on and they look perfect with my wig and breast forms!!! I can't wait to see what a little makeup will do.
Needless to say, I'm real excited and going to attempt to do my makeup solo for the first time. So wish me luck. (and I'm sure my friend is going to redo it when we get together this evening). I'll also be driving the hour to her place dressed and this will be only the second time that I'll be out in public dressed.

It sounds like a fun day of self-pampering! Holiday shopping and new experiences are wonderful, and there's definitely something freeing about being out and about dressed as you please - even if it's just the safety of your own car. I'll wish for the remainder of the evening to live up to your hopes and dreams. Do let us know, however it works out.

Tammy it sounds like you had a fun day of shopping. And more fun to come. Did you happen to try the dress and shoes on in the stores? If not try it next time. It is so nice coming home and knowing something will fit and look good on you.
Let us know how it goes and if your friend wants to write her experience with doing that it would be great also.

That is great that you were able to go shopping for yourself, although it was drab.
I have shopped in Layne Bryant, both drab and femme. I was treated as a lady all the time.
I find they have a good seleciton, and fit me well.
The first time I shopped there, I was nervous as well. Saw a skirt that i liked, and asked the sales girl if i might try it on.
She immediately replied, Yes, and opened a change room for me. It is a good thing that I did try it on, as had to get the size smaller.
I live quite a distnace from most of the stores that i shop in, wether it be drab, but mostly femme.
I will not buy anything that i can not try on. So far have never been refused the use of the changing room, but if they did, i would just go to another store .
Good luck on your make over, and please let us know how it goes

i seem to be opening up to the world more. Up to now I've been chary or using my credit card when shopping, but last week I ordered (online) a nightgown I particularly wanted, and today I bought a second (of the same) bra from Avenue after finding the first fit me really well--both were charges. And I finally signed up for Avenue's in-the-mail coupons, which means giving my name and address. I guess I'm finally comfortable with being a shopper, albeit in drab.
