Aveeno Positively Smooth

Post by Cindy Michelle »

Hi Gurls. I seldom post here but read the posts almost daily. Thanks to all of you for your support whether you know you are helping others (like me) or not. Anyway, for once I may have something of interest to add to the discussion.

I am not out except to my wife. I only dress around the house occaisonally but use no wig or make-up around my wife. I can only do that when she is gone.

I have been shaving the backs of my hands and chest above a bra line for about a year now. I also shave my legs in the winter which is about 8 months long here if you consider summer when you can wear shorts. I initially talked my wife into accepting the shaved hands because I said only old men have hairy hands and I didn't want to look old just yet. :) Anyway, I have been using Aveeno's Positively Smooth on my legs, hands and chest and their face cream on my beard for about a year now.

The cream has had a marked effect on my leg hair and on the hair on the back on my hands. When I started this I had to shave evey 5-7 days, but now I can easily go 1-2 weeks without shaving, and the hair that does grow is sparse and very fine--it is almost un-notiveable. However, I've noticed little change in the growht of my chest hair or facial hair. They seem to grow back as fast and as full as before I started using the cream. Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so, wll the continued use eventually reduce my facial hair and chest hair? Also, if I stiop using the cream, wil the effects continue (are they permanent)? or will the growth revert to what it was beforre I started using the cream?

I use it on my face underarms and sometimes parts of my chest.

The hair on my face and chest remained unchanged, thickness/coarseness wise. The only affect was the reduced rate in regrowth.

Underarms, I'm not sure about, since I don't let it grow back. However, there is no shadow like I see on some pits that have been shaved. Might have something to do with the aveeno, might have something to do with my hair color. Don't know.

Will your hair revert to growing the way it did before using aveeno, if you stop? Probably. May take a couple of growth cycles, but I doubt aveeno has a permanent affect on the hair. Heck, even some laser treatments aren't permanent.

I've been using Positively Smooth shave gel for a couple of years. I can't say exactly what the effect is, but I definitely notice the difference when I shave without it.

I have used the Aveeno after using the epilator for 4 years now. I am not sure I can attribute the reduced hair growth on chest arms and legs to the Aveeno alone though. But I thought, well, can't hurt. I am also on HRT which alone does cause a thinning of the hair shaft making the hair less noticable, and reduces speed of growth. I can go about three weeks between epilator sessions now, except on the arms, every two weeks. With the reduced size of the hair shaft, the epilator no longer causes any sensation other than a tugging feeling on more stubborn hairs. Your milage may vary. :)

Love, Carolynn

I've been using Aveeno for years now and I do believe it helped somewhat. Maybe just a tad less hair, but for sure easier to shave. Could be its just a nice cream, but I love it. I still use it even though I've been doing laser which really is the only real reduction solution (electro also). There are no "magic" things, but Aveeno seems worth using, nice aroma also. Just my humble opinion.
