To pose the question of wearing shorts with panty hose, my opinion is …. Wear what suits you. When I dress, for a late spring or early summer evening out, I like to wear a sensible length short (knee length) or a skort or Capri pants or pedal pushers. Either in a white or black or pastel color with a nice pullover top, simple jewelry, and light make up or usually 3” peep toe heels or sling back sandals. I will almost always wear panty hose (sandal foot), either nude or a light taupe color, sheer to the waist style or control top (if I’m having a “fat day” which is almost every day) and shape wear of some type, Spanx or one of my favorites, the Cortland band top panty brief # 4047. This brief girdle is very controlling and I find it very comfortable and it holds my tummy in and most importantly, keeps the panty hose in place. But the issue is: To wear or not to wear (panty hose)…that is the question that should be up to the wearer and the occasion (and the weather). This is my thought…anyone else?

And to continue the thought of wearing shape wear, panty hose and shorts, I offer the following.

I was browsing the inet and found an advertisement from Lady Grace about their shapewear sale. Always on the lookout for shapewear (God knows I need it), I decided to try a new VaBien # 3757 high waist long leg panty girdle. (I do on occasion wear the VaBien brief style, usually with short shorts and sometimes with a bathing suit, but I have since discovered the Miraclesuit swim wear…they REALLY work but that is another story for another time).

The VaBien # 3757 girdle (in café color) is extremely easy to wear and oh so comfortable. Upon receipt of the package and as I was going to dress today anyway, I decided to wear control top panty hose (sandal foot nude color) with my outfit. I usually wear Bali SkimpSkamp panties under my girdle, but today as the weather was warm, and it has been suggested on this forum and others, to wear panty hose, bareback, so to speak. After donning the panty hose and adjusting them for proper fit, I proceeded to put on the new VaBien girdle.

Because of the panty hose, the girdle slid up smoothly, with just the usual pulling and tugging and grunting. One of the girdle’s main features, in addition to the very high waist, is a large down stretch tummy panel spanning from hip to hip, which in my case, is very much wanted and needed. After pulling on the girdle and adjusting it, I was absolutely amazed at the results: a smooth flat tummy, jiggle free tush, and a high waist that controls my muffin top very well. I do not know about the other girdle wearers in the group, but for me a new girdle most often needs a “break in” period, to allow it to adjust to the wearer and the wearer to it. Not so with the VaBien girdle, it just fits “right” from the first try-on. As the group has heard about my muffin top issue (many times), I always wear a longline bra when dressing. With the new VaBien girdle, I also wore and old favorite longline, a Goddess # 1304, in beige color, with my 48C forms. The Goddess bra overlaps the girdle’s high waist feature by several inches. The wearer can either wear the bra over the girdle or under the girdle, but for me, I settled on over the girdle as it lets me move a little easier. The overall length of the girdle allows for many different outfits. For today, I will wear an above the knee length short (kaki color), a light blue pastel colored short sleeve length top, very light makeup including lip gloss, simple silver jewelry (earrings and bracelet), my Chantal wig in (buttered toast) and my new open toed pumps with a 3” wide base heel for easy walking. The shoes are black with a silver buckle on the vamp.

I wore the new girdle for over 10 hours the first time. It is simply that comfortable. I also received many compliments on the outfit also…”Are you loosing weight, are you dieting?” I would definitely recommend to anyone in the group looking to try a new summer time girdle to consider the VaBien # 3757 (it also comes in black) as it provides smooth comfortable shaping, that is very easy to wear even for long periods of time.

Anyone have any comments about shorts and panty hose?? …..

Sometimes pantyhose give me the tan look I really like.

Some women are just happy in hose. For me, if I need hose to be warm, then I'm not going to be in shorts. Funny though, my dress or skirt could be about as short anyway.

I think of shorts as less formal and dresses and skirt a bit more formal (naturally it depends on the materials) and hose are for warmth or formality. I hate hose in the summer and wouldn't think of being without in the winter.

As I write this, I am having a hard time of thinking of any of my GG friends wearing hose with shorts; maybe in the office when "office shorts" were popular.

I have noticed that quite a few younger GGs are wearing denim shorts with tights (pantyhose) in natural or tan colours. to me this seems strange, (but then much of what teenagers do seems strange) I totally get the look of shorts with coloured opaque tights, a look that because of the warmth of the tights does not need to be limited to high summer. Also a good way to show off some of the great patterned tights that are available now.

I almost always wear nylons or tights with a skirt or dress to give my legs the finished look. Maybe I'm just insecure about my legs, but I don't like the way they look bare. Even for a casual outfit I will wear a suntan pantyhose usually unless I'm in a hurry and don't care too much about my appearance just then.
And of course in the winter I like the sweater tights, and other warm things. I rarely wear shorts, why bother when I have so many nice skirts? But I might wear nylons with shorts, again like a suntan or nude just to hide my pallid legs.

I don't know, maybe I am older than most of you or my memory serves me better or I am just stuck in the past but many of us wore a form of shorts and hose years ago. Back in the later 60's culottes came out, I think it was an attempt to offer some modesty as skirts grew shorter. I remember many of rhe girls I went to school wearing them with stockings, this was pre-pantyhose. Then in the late 80's as the "corporate casual" look started we had the "City Suit" as I think it was called. That was shorts, Bermuda length, with a matching vest or even a blazer. They were meant to be worn with hose and depending on the occasson nice flats or even heels. I remember having a red linen set with the matching vest. I used to wear it with a white shell, white hose and red pumps. Very chic in the day although that fashion fad didn't last long. Then we got the skort. I remember having several and wearing them to nice occassions including dinner at some nice restaurants as well as one purple satiny one I had with a purple, white, and black color black blazer of the same material. A black shell, suntan pantyhose and black pumps and I was ready to go.

As for shapwewear I always wear at least a control panty if not more like a panjty girdle or a briefer, depends on the outfit and the support I need. Shapewear is more a matter of taste, need, and your likes. Growing up in the pre pantyhose era as I did I guess I just assume a lady wears a girdle everyday, well at least this one does.

Does your description of the bygone days ever bring back memories Karen! I never did the city shorts look, I always thought they were a bit silly, maybe that is why they went bye-bye, but I loved skorts! I had a few and from the sounds of your description of your purple ones I had the same outfit. Back then they were cute, swingy, and gave a youthful appearance. Ahhh for the good old days ...

As for shapewear with skorts I know I usually had a control brief on over my panthose when I wore them. Like you I grew up in the good old days when we didn't have shapewear, we had girdles! I still wear one everyday and from the looks of a lot of women I see come in the restaurant I work at a few more of them could use one!

If its not very hot & humid outside I wear shorts & hose almost all the time. Temperature must be around 70, wth low humidy. I usually wear nude pantyhose.

Funny how fashion styles have changed....but I still love that look of pantyhose worn with shorts "hot-pants" In high school ('68-'70) when pantyhose took over the fashion trend it was a norm to see girls in school wearing hot-pants with PH, and most with white go-go boots or heels...the look was everywhere. No wonder I struggled in school! lol Of course this was in San Francisco where it was pantyhose comfort weather year round. Remember the Duke of Hazard TV show and Daisy Duke, all she ever wore were hot-pants with pantyhose...oh my my!

I say wear them with shorts.....for sure! But then I'm a nylon fetishist so my opinion may just not count! lol

Brings back memories.

I use to wear white hotpants, pantyhose and white go-go boots my wife gave me. Didn't look quite right without the hose.

hose if i can makes my legs look better and love the feel!

I don't feel dressed without some sort of hose - pantyhose or stockings.

Is that aways a bad thing? When the weather does get hot (or should that be if) the feeling of nakedness apart from panties and bra under a floaty sun dress can be rather thrilling
