For many years now I have been pondering why my legs look pretty awful in 70 denier tights. Generally my legs look pretty good and shapely in most tights but there is a problem with 70 denier black tights. I cant work it whether its the shape of my legs I am only five six so I have short legs. Alternatively am I buying the wrong brand of tights. I would be grateful to hear from anyone on the forum regarding this. Do G.G.'s have a problem as well, I have read of some Women who complain that their legs look like sausage skins in 70 denier tights which is what I feel.

I have hardly any problems with forty denier tights or ten denier, which is great because I adore them, but I like the feel and warmth of the thicker denier as well and they would be great in the winter months.

Sorry, no experience of 70 denier tights. Thickest I've worn were 40d. Normally wear a max of 15d. 70d's must be like leggings!!!

Sounds like you might as well go with leggings? They come in a variety of thicknesses, stretchiness and materials so you will need to shop... ooooooo shopping

I reckon it's the fact that the tights are black and opaque in combination with the length of your legs.

I doubt the brand type makes much difference. You could try patterned tights to see if that makes a difference.

I have some black, extremely thick tights I got from Transformation. They sold them as appropriate for covering unshaven legs. I had kind of the same result as Belinda. I'm the same height, but my leg muscles are probably more developed from cycling - the legs just kind of lost their form. Mind you, you couldn't see the hair.

I have some (I think) 60 denier "support" tights (tan) I get from Boots, which I like. These seem to smooth out my leg muscles somewhat, but not too much. You can get opaque grey tights from M&S which seem less thick and so still leave the legs with some tone - I quite like these as well.

Belinda have you tried different brands or sizes. Also a shinny look or a flat looking hose may make a difference also. Other wise try some of the pattern tights and that may help with the look. Good luck.

There are so many alternatives to choose from, lots of colours and patterns, last year cotton tights with tetured patterns were quite the thing, I bought a coupe of pairs in grey and love them. Because they are thick and show no skin they can be worn with shorts or mini skirt, with boots and not look tarty, just warm and cosy

Canvas! I have yet to find a "Stocking" weave that will not ladder (given the right, or wrong, treatent), and that includes tee shirts which are the same weave but would be about 250 denier.

I just buy cheapo ones cos of this, with the exception of a few pairs of 300's that is lol. Cos theyre cheap, theyre throw away then. Ill get anything from 2 to 5 days use out of 15 or 30's. I guess it depends what youre doing in them really?

I bought several pair of tights on clearance some years ago that seem nearly indestructible, and they are comfortable, fit perfect, and look good. Sadly, I don't remember the brand and have never seen anything like them since.
But any good pair of opaque tights are going to be stronger and less likely to run than pantyhose. So normally I wear tights because of that. But for the nice sheer, sexy look in a short dress one does need pantyhose or stockings, and they will not last long.

I don't remember having any issues with a particular denier, but I have found huge differences between brands. The cheap ones just don't look sheer and smooth, and lose their stretch and get saggy very quick. Personally I stick with the US made brands like Berkshire, I think they look a lot nicer.

Shopping in Tesco yesterday I got some very nice grey 100 denier tights. They wear nicely and look good/stylish

I was in Target last week and they had a lot on clearance, so I stocked up. I was surprised to see that many of them were made in USA. I got a few pair of nice patterned tights, and was lucky enough to find a color that matched a new dress I bought a few months ago. I'm very happy about that
