Okay, I have questions.. Where do you find size 13 shoes in Canada???? And how do you go about getting over the butterflies of actually buying them..??? Feel free to post some "FIRST TIME" stories to help me get my courage up... My wife took me today to a place (and they stopped at size 12) and when I went in, my stomach was in my neck... i had to leave... Nobody had any idea what i was doing there, for all they knew i was looking for Mens shoes.. but for some reason it felt like EVERYONE knew what i was thinking.... I'm such a chicken...

Shopping for any feminine clothing can be 'serious business' especially when the size you are seeking can fall outside the "accepted" female sizes. I was in a local department store buying a pair of heels just the other day and (altough I don't wear a 13) a 10 will still get you some interesting looks from the sales people. Anyway, I had a 40% off coupon so I was determined to by my first pair of expensive pumps. I finally found a pair I liked and I took the floor sample to the sale girls and asked if they came in a 10. She said she'd check she came out and said yes so I said "Ssshh, the girl's got big feet!" She laughted and said, "yep, some of us do!" and I was out the door with my new pumps. So just relax and have fun with it. Of course for some of us it can get very embarrassing if the sales girl asks if we would like to try them on, be it shoes or dresses. Just don't let it bother you, have fun and SHOP ON!!
I can assume that you have tried EBay, if not they have many many sellers that you can (In fact I just got a nice pair of heels for .99 + $3.50 shipping) so bid away and you can get some nice bargins.

Well, I am sure about Canada but Burlington Coat Factory has very large sizes. I were a mens 13 which is a ladies 15 and have seen them there. I have not gotten brave as of yet. Small selection in styles but there is a lot of large sizes. Gee. In Dallas any way.

It is a problem!

I have been looking for a pair of ladies size 11 black boots and have been everywhere and wasting time , everything seems to be too small and if I do find something in size 11 its too narrow for my wide foot or the wrong style.

Thankfully today I had a bit of success :) :)

Funny that a pair of ladies size 10 runners will fit me but any other style of footware has to be size 11 .

Hi Jean,

I've found mail order is the best way to find casual shoes for femme wear. I haven't really ever been to a store that had size 13s. If I had though, I would be back over and over. :)

Congrats on going out with your wife to shop. That's really cool!! :) =D> :) You are very far from a chicken! You are super brave. A lot of men don't even reveal this side of themselves to their SOs less going shopping with them. Hold that head up. :) You're a rock star! :)

Try Winners. I can't guarantee if they have your size, but what will help your anxiety is that Winners shoe dept. has no staff members there, it is self help so you can browse up and down the aisles without any staff asking if you need help.

I'll also try other 'unmanned' stores like Zellers or Walmart. Payless may have your size, but there is an attendant on duty, so it may not help your anxietys.

As for 'first time', I remember my first time buying women's clothing. I was quite abit nervous too, I remember buying a Baltex one piece swimsuit, some lingerie, and only one or two pieces of men's clothes. When I brought it up to the cashier, my heart was beating soo fast I thought it was going to go thru my rib cage.

But now that I think about it, the cashier just rang the items thru, put it in a bag, and told me "thank you". She never gave me any dirty looks or anything.

When it come to buying women's apparel, don't psyche yourself out. I sometimes fall into the same trap, where I think too much and believe that everyone knows about my CDing and they know about how I am the one wearing the women's clothes. The fact is, they don't know and they couldn't care less. You could be buying the items for your wife/g/f.

Here are some 'tips' I follow when I buy women's clothing :
- go on a weekday morning, right when they open. Depending on the store you go to, you may get a few moments to yourself in the whole women's clothing department.
- include thrift stores in your shopping adventures. Prices are good and most of the time staff will never ask if you need help.
- next time you go clothes shopping with your wife, just take a quick glance at the women's clothing department and see how many people are in there and if there are staff members there too. You are 'staking out' the place first.
- bringing the stuff up to the cashier maybe the most nerve wracking thing, but I conquered that by just going up there, act calm, say hello, once purchase has been made, say good bye, thanks, and leave. If you are uneasy, ask if they have one of those gift boxes, then they'll think it is a gift for someone.

Remember, you have every right to be there as anyone else. Don't psyche yourself out. And tell yourself, you did not drive all the way there for nothing, so you must buy something before returning home to make the trip worthwhile.

Ah, the first time I bough a pair of ladies' boots. My heart was beating like a jackhammer - not so much cause I was nervous (though I was) as because ladies' boots turn me on! I was at Value Village and I had to look through about 20 pairs before I found some that fit me and that I liked the looks of. Of course, the old Ukranian babas were looking at me funny, but I've never really cared about being looked at funny (guys who grow their hair long and regularly wear spiked dog collars, fishnet shirts, and heavy black lipstick and mascara tend to develop a pretty thick skin...) Anyway, the cashier didn't give me a second look even though everything I was buying was from the 'womens' section. Most of the time, the clerks don't really care what you're buying. They have a job to do, and they do it.

HI,
Hello from a fellow canadian.

THere is a store called "Tall Girl" they are in Toronto and I am sure other parts of Canada. If you do live in the GTA I coudl name otehrs specific to this region, but Tall Girl is a chain store.

Of course Payless is another option, but the quality can be iffy. DO be prepared to pay a few bucks extra though for those larger sizes. I took a customer shopping once and he dropped a few hundred on two pair of heels from Tall Girl.

Hi Jean-P,

Since Missy wears a large size, too, we found that dressy open-toed or dressy sandal type shoes fit the best. With this type and style of shoe, he can wear a ladies size 11 1/2. We casually go into a shoe store and I "pretend" that we are buying a pair of nice shoes for Missy's sister. If the need arises, we say that his sister has a large foot and we are always on the lookout for something for her.

We always take the shoes home so Missy can try them on in private. If they don't fit, we just return them and have no problems. We just continue to look for something else. Missy always says, "The thrill is in the hunt!"

Good luck! Have fun shopping!

Hugs,

Mrs. Missy(SO)

Just want to say thanks for the support, there is a lot of good ideas, but I think I have to just muster some more courage and do the deed...The cost of shipping to Canada from the states is huge (at least the places I found). I may call one of the local stores and see if they are willing to stay open for 1/2 hour just for me or open 1/2 early.. Worst they can say is no right... or I might just take a ride across the border. I will let you all know what happens.

Hi Jean-P,

well I don't know anything about shopping in Canada, it is just too far from my place. But you asked for "first-time" stories.

Well when I started, I bought female shoes via eBay. But this is anonymous and does not count.
First time I went into a store, I was mostly looking for male shoes. What a surprise - the female shoes of larger size were just in the next row. Of course I couldn't resist and I got two nice looking pairs of medium-heeled pumps. I hid myself to try them on and then did my first steps. Great feeling. As it was just after the store opened, noone had an eye on me. But then came the first time for me, when I had to go to the counter with female items - well there were a lot of butterflies inside rumoring. But there hasn't been any comment on my buy. Of course, I completely forgot, that I intended to buy male shoes too

Next time, different store - I just had some spare time, as it was winter I looked for boots. Also in this store the larger female shoes were close to the mens section. I really found a few nice looking boots and tried them all. Soon I decided on one pair and took them to the counter. The sales lady gave me a smile and asked, if I want a bag to carry the shoes.

On both times I was en-drab and obviously the sales girls knew, that I was buying it for myself. In generell just keep in mind, that they want you to buy shoes - any shoes - as they are payed for selling shoes. I am sure, that they place larger womens shoes close to males section by intention.

So just don't worry, just try and buy - it is a wonderful experience and you will get shoes, that really fit.

Hugs, Jabbela

You know you may have something there. Placement of stock in stores is not 'by accident', it's all based on psychology of trying to 'cue' people to buy the maximum amount of stuff. Since CD's are potentially a HUGE and lucrative market for shoe stores, it makes sense that they would try to display the larger sizes somewhere they would catch our eye. Maybe someone's finally catching on....

Hi Jean

Do you have a Sally Anne or a Value Village anywhere near where you live?
I have found both of these to be good places to find unusual sizes in both clothing and shoes. They are also somewhat easier to shop in if you are a touch nervous about doing so....they usually have less staff on the floor and the staff they do have generally will leave you alone if you don't ask for help. My mother used to work at a Value Village here in British Columbia and told me that they had lots of guys come into the store to buy womans clothing and shoes and it was no big deal to her or the other staff.
