Is a Venus razor worth it?

When I shave my legs, I tend to get red bumps. I can reduce them somewhat by being gentle and making sure it's not too cold in my room, so I don't get goose bumps. Now my question is, how much better does a Venus razor(or any razor designed for women) work versus an ordinary one, or one designed for men? Is it worth the extra cost, and fear of being outed for buying one?

Hi Daniel,

I use the Venus razor and I won't ever go back to anything else.... well, at least not that I can see. I love the handle and the razor works well too. I started noticing that I get better results with gel over shaving cream too, so I'm not sure which is first, the gel or the razor type?

I did try combining the Mach 2 and the Venus handle, but the shave wasn't as good as the Venus razor. I haven't tried the newer Venus model, but I like this one so much , I don't see a need to change.

So yes, I think think it's really worth it.

I used my venues shaver today, I fianly found a way of shaving that would take a lot longer than I am used to. I took my time fillin the bottom of the tub with water that would just cover my feet. I shaved my legs and now they feel smooth. I used some lootion after words and now I happy. I also shaved under my arms a first for me something else I am happy with.

I like the Venus myself. I haven't shaved with anything else in about six months. This includes my face and other parts. Combined with just the right shave cream or gel, they give the closest, smoothest shave I've ever gotten.

Then why don't they make all razors like that? By saying it's for women and putting it in frilly pink packaging, the marketers are probably scaring away a lot of men.

Hi,

They may make a similar one for men, I don't know. I have used the venus for over a year and still love it. We must shave. Why not have a pretty razor? I shave all over and have no problem with cuts and knicks. The Venus is very safe to use. I love the rasberry rain shaving lotion. It is heavenly.

Could you girls possibly give me couple tips for a smoother shave?
Like techniques.. directions.. razor type (*phew* I saved the topic =P)

Well I have found with some trial and error that trying to shave in the shower does not work that great. The shower always washes off the shaving lotain/cream. What I did when I want (and have) the time to is take a nice realxing bath and do my legs then. For a long time I have hated taking a bath but now that I found that it easier to shave my legs that way wow. That is just a suggestion. Oh oh oh go slowe never rush or you may nick or cut your self that is the worse did that to.

I haven't found it to work any better that a single or double bladed razor.

If you are getting razor bumps, the most likely cause is the three bladed razor. The more blades the razor has the sharper the tip of the remaining hair shaft, and the sharper the shaft the weaker it is.

Accordingly, when the blade pulls at the hair and then cuts it, the sharper, weaker tip of the hair receeds under the skin and is too week to push through during regrowth. Exfoliating helps many, and using a single or double bladed razor helps even more.

Hi Guest,

I used to have a problem with ingrown hairs and bumps for six months or so. The problem has gone away. I did not know why. The stuble used to be sharp and my wife complained. Now it is soft and she is ok if I only shave every week or two. I do use a lotion. Regular shaving must have made a difference.

My experience has been that the Venus does work better for me. The explaination given does make sense to me.

Saw an ad on television this morning for "Veet" it is evidently like "Nair" but it also comes with a double edge rasor with flexible plastic blades. Says that it will last twice as long as shaving. One of our sisters once pointed out that manufactures will spend much more time and research on feminine beauty products than they do on men's because they realize that women care and share and if something doesn't work it will "spread like widlfire!" where as men just suffer and keep buying the same "junk."
That being said I am going to get me a Venus and try it.

I think the Veet thing is so bogus it hurts. It's just another way to use a cloth to rub off the dead hair, but the marketing around it was very cutesy, so I'm sure it will sell.
