Any suggrstions?

I seem to be having a severe problems with ingrown leg hair at my upper thigh area, even though I am using a good razor, and seem to get a good smooth shave.

Any of you ever had this problem, or even better, a solution?

Thanks in advance, I know one of you girls will have some great advice!

Well, if it helps any, this is not that uncommon a problem. Sometimes when you start shaving in an area that hasn't been shaved for some time, it can happen.

I've been shaving for several years and really haven't had any problem with that.

The best I can suggest is to make sure you are using a good, sharp blade and don't shave against the growth. You might also try a remover like Neet, those will get below the skin.

Use lotion after shaving, and do be careful... ingrown hairs can become infected and be painful.

I hope this helps a little, maybe someone else can provide more info.

Use a single bladed razor. Don't be frugal, change often if you think it's getting dull.

Exfoliate daily.

If you can find some, get aspirin powder, mix in a glass of water, and using a cottom ball, wipe down the areas where the ingrown hair has occured.

Donna always has great advice!!!
I would only concur -use a good shaving cream and don't scrimp on the blades - always sharpe and new if possible!

try exfoliation too

I used to have a problem similar to yours. Not sure whether they were ingrown hairs or not, but I always seemed to get small, point-defect type cuts on the front sides of my thighs, not far above my knees. I was always careful to use sharp blades, plenty of lubrication and so forth but still the problem persisted. They seemed like razor cuts/scrapes, but they were never linear in nature and experiments soon ruled out the razor as the culprit.

Exfoliation solved the problem permanently, and this is not a high-tech solution. It's very simple...Every time I take a shower I soap up my legs as usual and then use a back brush to scrub them down all over. It feels great and relieves itching too. You can use body wash instead of soap if you like. Sometimes I use Aveeno body wash; it has colloidal oatmeal in it, which is a natural anti-itch remedy. The oatmeal is so finely divided that the product looks just like a regular, viscous liquid soap. It's really soothing to my skin, and it leaves it softer too. Recently I've even used Aveeno in place of shaving cream and I could swear I get a closer cut that way.

Anyway, try soaping and scrubbing every time with a good back brush. You don't have to put lots of muscle into it, just a firm and gentle motion all over will do the trick.

I hope this is helpful.

Hi, KT. I haven't actually tried exfoliating my legs after shaving them, so this probably works pretty well as the others say. I recently got so fed up with difficulties in shaving my legs that I switched to waxing. I use the Veet roll-on kind or their pre-waxed strips when I can find them. I find the result to look much better and produce alot less trouble with ingrown hairs. Oh, and yes, it hurts.

more on exfoliation

I don't scrub/exfoliate right before shaving. I find that if I scrub during every shower, whether or not I'm planning shave, my legs are in plenty good shape to stay defect-free. It's a cumulative kind of thing, I think.

Cheers,

I had the same problems with my legs, so I stopped shaving. Now I use an epilator! Same thing applies, just make sure you scrub well during each shower.

Hi, I have only finished a hour epilating my legs & breasts & have been doing it for about 4 years, these days, I find that the hair is much slower in returning and also more sparse (PTL)

When my belly, or thigh hair growth is too quick to shave (or eplilate) I have use Veet or Naird which can be pretty effective, & as the hair starts to grow again, out comes my epilator again.
I must admit that I like a hairless body (neck to toes)

Pat,

I have to agree with you there! Being my size it takes alot of upkeep though. I am six foot one and over 200 lbs so shaving everyday would take up most of everyday........lol.

I epilate a lot.. the hair on my legs is spare to being with so I am lucky there.
I also epilate my whole body (very very carefully in the private area) and find the Braun to be the best. (I have several eplilators)

I also exfoliate during every shower to minimize the bumps, which are few and far between now.

I'm wondering though, I just started epilating my legs and I love it, but I have a swimming pool in the back yard. I am wondering what is going to happen this summer. How I am going to explain my hairless legs to my kids (they are grown) and my grandkids (they are young).

I just don't know but I know now that I love to CD and I fought it for half a lifetime.

I wouldn't really worry too much about explaining your legs to others.

I've been smooth for over 3 years now. I love to wear shorts in the summer, and have not had even one person say a thing, at least that I'm aware of.

Besides, alot of athletes and swimmers shave their legs for performance.

I am fortunate in the fact that I'm naturally not hairy to begin with. I guess on me, it doesn't really look so out of place.

Just remember, if you don't make an issue of it... no one else will either.
