Has anyone bought a halloween wig to start off as a cheap wig? I really dont' feel like spending a lot on a real wig so I thought halloween wigs are pretty cheap and I could get away with buying one online and not getting a too suspcious box at the military p.o, but when I tried to buy from amazon, it said the seller doesn't send to overseas places. Thats alright for not, cause I was going on a spending spree and I really don't need a wig at this time.

I'd recommend
Paula Young (that name is a link) for online ordering of good quality wigs at fair prices. Halloween wigs are generally atrocious, and a waste of your money, in my personal opinion.

My very first wig was a halloween specail. It was cheap and poor fitting but it also gave me my very first ,complete look at Jennifer. If it wasnt for that cheap wig I dont think I would have gone and spent the money on a good one.

Mine was a cheap Halloween wig too. It did not fit well, it was impossible to comb or untangle. It was miserable. Once I outed my wife helped me pick out a better wig.
Wigs are a tough buy do to you need a large to extra large cap size. This limits style. If you get a cap that is to small the wig wont look or fit right on you.
I spent a good bit on a wig at the WigShop and was kinda happy with it. I then bought one from SuddenlyFem /
www.crossdressers.com and all are large cap and adjustable. I love it. Its the one I am wearing in my pictures.
Many affordable wigs

I shop for wigs at a number of shops through out SE Wisconsin and into Chicago. There are numerous shops that cater mostly to the african american population. It is not uncomon to find a pretty decent wig there for 20$ and under. I have over 75 wigs and dont think I spent more than 50$ on any of them. Mine are used cheifly for photography, but I have worn many out to the local clubs... I guess what I am saying is dont buy a haloween wig when you can get a reasonable synthetic for the same amount. It just requires a little searching, kinda like a treasure hunt.

Thank you all for the helpful suggestions, I decided I really don't need a wig at this time, It would be just another item I would have to hide in my small dorm room. Maybe sometime down the road though.

This is a decision you need to make and your military status will dictate this very well.
You are correct to be cautious and to hide, if a colleague happens to trove this site by accident and recognizes you, you are OUTED!
This would be bad.
Always error on the side of caution.

Plus if you have one of those dreaded surprise inspections, you would raise some eyebrows.

I hope not to annoy anyone here - but best is to go without wigs. I started to let my hair grow more than 25 years ago when I was a teen. This would not help during military service (it is compulsory in Germany, but I have chosen to do social work instead). Anyway - times have changed - in german army you do not need to get your hair cut, since women can join the forces.

The same herein the US, if a man joins the military he gets the shave but a woman gets to keep hers! Double standard!
The reason we are told is due to lice! I guess women cant get lice!

The official reason for the hair cut in the armed forces was, that the helmet will not fit well with long hair. Since a few years women also can join the armed forces (previously only not-armed forces like health care etc.). Since then members of armed force are allowed to have long hair, but they have to make sure, the helmet fits perfectly... this mostly means: ne freedom for nice hair-styling - they have to be hidden under the helmet...
