I wear a beard, not a large one just a mustcie and over the chine. Lately I have been thinking about shaving it all off. But I have had it for so long that I do not know if I can.

I wanted to know what others thought I should do. It would be a huge change in my life as I can not remeber at time I have not had one.

Please advice and be specific if you can.

Late last November I shaved off my mustache & goatee - had the mustache almost 30 years & the goatee almost 25 years.

Psoriasis gave me sensitive skin so I let things grow there - cheeks not hairy enough for sideburns. I stopped shaving because in the 70's everything I tried for shaving wound up irritating me.

Several months after the crossdressing urge started again at age 51 (pretty much dormant since age 18 ), I decided I didn't need/want the whiskers so I tried a Norelco Advantage, the wet/dry cordless electric that dispenses macadamia oil lotion. I gave it the 30 day trial & decided to keep it. It doesn't irritate and is fast, so that's what I use. Sometimes I hold a hot washcloth against my face for a minute before shaving and that seems to help get a closer shave. I follow the shaving with moisturizer.

At the same time I resumed shaving, I slightly trimmed my eyebrows, just removing the unibrow and trimming the longest brow hairs a bit shorter.

The remarks from people about my changed appearance were all positive. No mentions about my eyebrows.

I know everyone's situation is different, but I hope this was of some help. Please feel free to ask me further questions.

Yes I lived with my dad who only once I can remember he did not have a beared so know it's hard for me to completly shave it off.

I wore facial hair for years just to prevent myself from admitting I was a crossdresser.

Meaning, as long as I had facial hair I knew I wouldn't go out of the house dressed or explore more of the femme side of crossdressing. My facial hair was my own safety shield. I wouldn't really look in the mirror, I'd just dress.

Guess what? After I shaved, true to form, I started wearing wigs and ordered makeup. Most importantly, I also felt free again. I had been lying to myself and hiding behind facial hair for several years. The truth was I wanted to dress more and let my facial hair keep me from feeling complete.

I wasn't happy with what I saw when I shaved either. That took work. Even after I shaved I thought and looked in the mirror I thought, "Oh, you are so not supposed to do this." Slowly things became easier and without altering my eyebrows I was able to achieve a very femme look.

At work people all asked why I shaved too, but no one was negative.

So, my suggestion is shave. You can always grow it back.

I will have see about getting an electic razer as straight edge takes so long when I have to go to work so early in the morning

I use a Norelco Advantage, which is a cordless wet/dry shaver with a built in dispenser for Nivea for men lotion or gel. I bought mine at Walmart for around $75 and have been pleased with it. The included little packs of "goo" seem pretty small, but I still haven't gone through the 5 packs of lotion and one gel that came with it. I thought the lotion refills are about $5 for 5 packs.

I find using it in the morning is quick & easy for a good male shave. If you're dressing up, you may want to hold a hot washcloth to your face for a minute or so to soften your whiskers to get a closer shave yet.

One of the reasons I started shaving again was that it was starting to block me from exploring more of the femme side of crossdressing. I don't go out dressed and don't plan to, except maybe Halloween. I am starting to slowly explore makeup.

okay girls, check out the gillette "Venus". I laughed when my SO gave me one but nothing shaves off a 4 week beard easier than this thing (other than an electric clipper) and its easy to rinse the hair out.

How about this ne razer that has come onto the market that clames to not need any cream or any thing it built into wear the blades are.

Because of my laser hair removal treatment, I doubt I'll be using any razors on my face. I'll use an electric razor for the few I see these days.

I have to agree with Alexandra about the Venus razor. I use it for my legs though. It's a great shave!!

No, I have not. I was wondering if any one has used that new razor. I still use a regular razor, MACH 3 to shave my face. I still have full goatee and still trying to decide if I want to shave the rest off. I have had it for so long that I am not sure I want to shave it off.

I can understand what you mean. It wasn't easy for me to say goodbye to my facial hair, but now I'm like gooooood riddance!!!

It can always grow back unless you have permanent hair removal like I have had.

A local crossdressing club (of which I'm not a member, but this activity is open to anyone) is having a charity shopping day. They've decided to support a shelter for abused women and children, by going shopping today en femme, buying things that the women and children need (both necessities such as sanitary napkins and Christmas gifts for the kids).

Some members of this club have been known to lay down (more than a little obnoxiously at times) the club's pretty good but inflexible dress code. The code stresses dressing appropriately for your age. If the code is actually written, I don't have access to a copy.

I'm in my mid-fifties. The weather will be mild--probably highs in the lower 70s.

What should I wear?
