Haha! I used to say that too, when I lived in New Orleans. I can't utter those words anymore. Our last snowfall was early in the day, and then it got really cold in the afternoon. This made the roads icy-slick. People were skidding all over the place. I'm still amazed at how ridiculous people can be. Four wheel drive does not make one impervious to road conditions!
My SO says I drive like a gramma, but I haven't spun out since I was a teenager.
Sounds like y'all are pretty snow savvy too! Glad to hear everyone faired well through the storm.
My neighbor just bought a plow blade for his 4-wheeler (Polaris, I think) for their mountain cabin. It seems like it would be worth the investment for a long driveway. I have a friend who lives up the canyon and he calls his tractor/plow "invaluable". (His drive is about 300 yards) Of course, one has to afford the price of these things.

"Plows"!!! That's what a shovel is for, winter exercise, and potential heart attack in my case!! I'm lucky, my drive is only about 30' long, but do get a 24" bank at the end from a 3" snowfall after the roadplow goes by.
Speaking of which, I do have to go remove it later today, but not in my full skirt and petticoats that I'm in now, too revealing when I bend over to scoop up snow!
Still going to box some up some day and FedEx it to Dee and CharLee, just so they don't forget.
We got about a foot and half of snow but were fortunate that it arrived whiel everyone was asleep. Most people got up, looked around, and went back to bed so the plows had and easy time of it except that they are running out of places to put the snow. It is to the point where you pull up to a stop sign in your newly 1 lane road and can't see around the corner for the piles of snow.
I personally am fortunate in that I have an energetic teenage daughter who cheerfully shovelled the driveway. I was rather envious as I was on a ladder chipping away at the 8" thick ice dam that is now extended far enough up the roof to cause leaks. Believe me this makes shovelling snow look like pleasant relaxation. At least the leak has stopped.
I understand that folks like medical personel and firefighters need to get to work. And was really greatful that the folks who fix furnaces went to work and came to fix my furnace in all that snow. But why a middle level office manager has to struggle through a foot and a half of snow to work, causing problems all the way, is beyond me.

Thanks Rikki, but no thanks. One reason I moved to Florida was to get away from the cold and snow after delivering the mail in that kind of weather for 26 years. I'll settle for the " cold weather " that the people down here complian about. If you send me any snow I'll put in my pool to keep the water level up
We have officially been issued a "Winter Weather Advisory" which means that Monday, we are expected to get 1 to 3 inches of snow during the day, and 2 to 3 inches Monday night into Tuesday.
Total accumulations, 3 to 6 inches - enough to create a mess, but not enough to close schools despite the blowing snow and white out conditions.
Rat's, it's going to be drafty under the skirt again! Guess I'll have to break out the pantyhose ---- again!

WOW!! your weather forecast for Monday and Tuesday is almost exactly the same as ours in Oklahoma City. 3-6" of blowing snow, strong north winds, and cold and dropping temperatures. Our high for Wednesday is to be 19 degrees F. Will be above freezing on Monday and Friday, so likely to hang about a bit.
BRRRRRR!!!!

That makes anywhere from 4 to 9 inches of new stuff on the ground. I don't mind the snow, it's the "blustery" and wind chills that get me.

It is all a matter of prospective. If you have the equipment to do the job, great. I lived in a place that got 158cm in about 18 hours. It was a heavy snow by any standard, but it didn't cripple the town, just slowed it down alot. If you didn't have at least a 10HP snowblower, you were wasting your money. The thing that I hated the most, was having to shovel off the roof. It came close to shovelling up hill. This is no tall tale either.
So I concluded that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to enjoy themselves as long as they can. People should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of there labor, for these are gifts from God.
Been snowing here since shortly after midnight, with a bit of freezing rain and sleet first from about 9:45 m last night. Currently, about 8 inches, drifts 2 ft. in my yard and front entryway, and nearly three feet against the garage door. We still have two more bands of heavy snow to come over the next couple of hours, then moderate to light for the rest of the day. Winds gusting 40-60 miles per hour in some parts of the state, 40 mph here just a short time ago, and higher winds expected as the low pressure area pulls across the state. Causes sideways blizzards and drifting of the very cold, dry snow. Something else!!! I was hoping we would avoid this stuff for the winter of '10-'11, but "Oh no"!!
Missouri and Illinois, batten down your hatches, it's coming for you!

All of you in the part of the country that has been hit by this blizzard, I hope you are doing alright. I heard it is a bad one. My thoughts are with everyone.
