Surgery went well, according to the Dr.

She's been up on her feet once, with help from two therapists. Not sure why the Dr. thinks she should be able to come home today, but it seems he set a schedule and is keeping to it.

But I reckon, from what I've observed, I can do for her at home the same as they do at the hospital, except for blood tests.

I'm glad she's doing well.

Aside from insurance pushing towards discharge, there is a very good resaon to get folks out of the hospital as soon as possible. That's where all the germs are, and hospital induced illness remains a real medical issue in spite of a great many precautions.

I hope the homecoming goes well.

Donna that does seem to be the practice these days. they try to get patients out of the hospital sooner rather than later. I'm glad everything is going ok.

Donna, this seems to be the trend nowadays. When I was a kid, surgery meant days, if not weeks, of hospital stay. Today, most surgeries are done on an outpatient basis. Even those surgeries that require the patient to stay overnight are typically short (2-3 days).
I believe the reason is as you stated. Most of the care they require after the operation can be handled by family members. Furthermore, people heal better in a comfortable environment and there is less chance of stray infection at home.

I'm glad everything went well. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Hugs,
Kyra

Thanks,
Brought her home yesterday afternoon.

She's progressing well. We are using our walkie-talkies as a nurse call button while she remains in bed. It's an adjustable sleep number bed, so she's definitely more comfortable than the hospital bed.

I took a walker from the hospital, no questions asked, so she can get to the bathroom safely.

Well, things took a bad turn.

She developed a leak of Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) around the skull patch, and has an increase in papilledema, all apparently caused by an increase in intracranial pressure.

Tomorrow, the doc has to reopen the previous incision to repatch the skull, and put in a lumbar drain to reduce pressure.
