Do you dress or act your age?
Have always been a kid at heart and that won't change.I dress and act as how i feel! so have no problem with it.Do not use age as an excuse to what you can and can not wear. How do you feel about this?

Re: Do you dress or act your age?
Hello Victoria.
I guess that it all depends on what you are trying to achieve and/or the circumstances. If you are trying to be accepted/"pass" as a woman, dressing according to the place/time/situation and even your age will help you to achieve that goal. Women are usually very aware of what other women are wearing. Seeing a woman who is dressed in an non-appropriate way (Say, wearing a sun dress with sandals and hosiery) will very likely draw their attention, so they may then be more aware of any other details which may give a cd/tg away as such.
Having said that, my dear mom told me a few years ago something that challenges (at least in part) what I wrote in the previous paragraph: She said something like "I'm over 60. I can dress and wear anything I want when I want it". So, while this is true for anybody, wearing anything you want when you want it doesn't mean that the rest of the world will not react to it. Just that for my mom, she doesn't care at all.
So the heart of the matter would be... if you want to wear what you want and can do it not caring at all what other people may think, that's great. In a way, it is very much like dressing to stay home. You can wear what you want. But if going out and trying to fit in, dressing and acting your age is something that would matter.

I think its important to dress your age to a certain degree, I believe you can push the boundaries to a fair degree though. I do not think for instance many 40 year old plus women are going to look good in a denim mini skirt that barely covers your butt but maybe ripped skinny jeans could look ok.
Acting your age however is a whole different thing I guess we are 21 on the inside so enjoy life
I am very hot on making sure that anything my son has is totally age appropriate probably more so than I ever was with his sister, slightly different as I am stopping him from looking older but the principal is the same.

We are all as we have always been inside ourselves but time does require us to do our best to maintain our selves as best we can. Still Age does creep and take it's toll...Reading Glasses....back ache after sitting in one position too long...and slower recovery if we happen to pull something which can also occur more easily with ageing muscles. Bruising which even without the daily baby asprin recommended for men over 50 still occurs due to thinning less protective skin.
where ever my gender is I dress appropriate to the situation and whatever looks good on me. I would look ridiculous in many things younger women wear. Does not mean you have to dress like a frumpy elderly woman who no longer cares. We have to know what is up to date and what looks good on us and that can be casual to fairly dressy. I can still wear shorts but do not do short shorts... mid thigh to above the knee, or well I believe capris are ... women you see most who are plump and middle aged wearing capris and some top... Middle age...ugh! jeans, sundresses or any nice dress that falls not too far above the knee or even to mid calf....
Yeah I dress my age I suppose because I do not look good dressing like a teenager or someone in their twenties to early 30's anymore but I don't have to dress like a frumpy grandma! I am glad I am quite fit, healthy, and at my correct weight so I can still look just fine.

I respect all opinions here and understand. When the weather gets warmer and i want to feel sexy in a short skirt in the middle of public or a bikini on the beach i will. This just is the way i am and have no shame or care to be denied. If others do not like it! it's they're problem, not mine. When i comes to passing! It's nice that i do pass many times but if i don't! i know who i am and that is what counts.

Robby? Been a while but great statement was to this effect - We have every right to be who we are and they have every right not to like it. Yeah you are free to dress in whatever manner you desire or in whatever pleases you inside.

Re: Do you dress or act your age?
I believe there is a time and place for everything. I might act a little silly at times, and I may still dress like a twenty-something when I'm home alone, but...
If I'm out, well I'm a bit more reserved and I try my best to dress age appropriate. I just want to blend in as much as possible.... or, as much as passible? LOL!
But we're all different and we each make our own rules. Do what you want! Dress how you want! Act your shoe size and not your age if that's what you want to do!
As long as you're not hurting anybody else, where's the problem?

An alternative perspective: I dress and act my age all the rest of the time. Why wouldn't I do it on those . . . special occasions?

Re: Do you dress or act your age?
Dressing ones age is a polite way of those who don't like what you are wearing to tell you to change. It isn't about dressing your age as much as it is about dressing appropriately and not making a fool out of yourself. A mini skirt on a 250 lb. body, be it CD or GG, is disgusting regardless of the age of the wearer! It is more dressing to fit your body, your style, and the situation.
As for acting ones age:
Aging is mandatory, maturing optional!

Remember Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did only she did it backwards and in high heels!

Re: Do you dress or act your age?
Victoria, a lot of how one dresses when out is more about what you are wanting when you are out and about. When I get out and about enfemme I firstly want to be wearing feminine clothes. Secondly I am like Emma and I try to dress to blend with where I am going. But while I am trying to blend I am also usually on the higher end of the feminine and and looking nice of those I am trying to blend with. And part of the dressing to blend is wearing what is appropriate for my age and body type. I have never worn a mini skirt out and about and do not plan on doing that. But others can rock a mini fairly well. And one other goal I have when out and about is to leave those I interact with and know, or learn I am a guy in femme clothes, I want to leave them with a good impression of what a CDer is. I had an SA I know once tell me that "you always look nice". To me that is a great compliment that is in line with my goals for getting out and about enfemme.
And lastly we talk about the clothes, but we just gotta have some fun!!!!

Re: Do you dress or act your age?
Thank you, Kim
For my age, i know that many times will dress younger but for the reason that i dress the way i feel. Most of the time won't wear something very sexy like a short mini, but there are times i admit that it would be nice to show off a little of what i have. Many times i have gotten great compliments on what i wear and how i look. Look my sexiest when going to a social event or maybe shopping at a mall.

Re: Do you dress or act your age?
I've never gone out en femme, but I like to dress at home. When I do, I do it with the thought (dream) in mind of looking passable. I'm 50 something, so I try to dress like a 50 something woman. If I thought I could pass for 30 something, I'd love to rock a nice Scarlett Johansson look, but since that's patently absurd, I'll hope I can some day try for a nice Brooke Shields, Uma Thurman, Geena Davis, or Allison Janney kinda thing. I guess if you're totally fine with being noticed and outed, then just do your thing, and even if you look obviously male, people will applaud the effort.
Cheers,
Lysette

I love it!Diana Michelle wrote:

I think a lot of girls have a tendency to dress more youthful than a GG the same age and IMO it is because they have been closeted and didn't get the chance so once out they are trying to make up for lost time. the other reason both girls and GG's do it is because we don't want to accept we are getting older.
I was shopping for a dress for a Christmas party last year and went into the dressing room with an armload of dresses. I really liked the one and was standing looking in the mirror wearing it when a woman probably my age, 63, came out of her dressing room and came up behind me to use the mirror. She mentioned the dress was cute and I smiled and said "yes but isn't it a little short", the hem was just above my knees. She laughed and said "Honey if I had your shape and legs I would be asking isn't it a little long?"
Yes I bought the dress.

Re: Do you dress or act your age?
I feel about 10 years younger when I'm Stephanie.
I dress fairly conservatively so I would say I dress in the 30 and 40 age group.
