I have also suffered from Fibromyalgia for the last 6 years, progressively getting worse. A bit young as I was 40 or so at the time they figured it out. While I have meds, every day is filled with pain.
There are times I find dressing, what little I can do, to provide some distraction. At other times, I feel so crummy that nothing pulls me out of the funk.
I can retire in about 5 years - I might be forced to if this progresses more

went to see the specalist last Thursday and he has informed me that it is not Fybromyalgia like my GP thought but actually osteo arthritis......... similar symptoms ...... diffenent pain and site of pain but apparently very very easy to confuse.......... changed tabs.......... had a down and won week but I will get there I know.......... having to come to terms with the fact that the job has to go and all that that will mean......... 49 is not an easy age to walk into a job at anytime especially if you have been off work for 7 month through illness and know that is not going to get majorly better
me thinks a change of life is around the corner....... looking towards going to uni or collage and doing something about the counselling courses I have been talking about for 3 years..... as one door shuts, they do say another opens

Jess I am sorry to hear about this. These changes can be very intimidating.
I got to read the doctors report. Actually all the doctors various reports.
All the back pain is actually responding well to physical therapy and in particular changed posture at the drafting board. Also apparently I was making some mistakes in form at the gym that may have contributed a great deal to the back problems. The rheumatologist who was saying fibromyalgia in her report said that although it seems sort of like fibromyalgia it is probably just generalized osteoarthritis, bursitis, and tendonitis. However the back doctor who prescribed all the exercises is saying that to her it doesn't seem like arthritis, more muscular. Since I am getting better by following her treatment plan I will listen to her.
As for the knee and legs, most of the problems have gone away except one, which is my bad knee. The other leg and foot problems seem to have been a result of trying to protect the bad knee. I went back to the knee doctor and said that I have done everything right, lost about 30 lbs (only 20 to go for about my right weight) and eat right, taking supplements, lots of icing (heat hurts, even a shower sometimes is irritating), do lots of exercises the way the PT says to whenever I can and still it has rapidly and dramatically gotten worse. I have gone from happy and pain free brisk 5 mile walks 7 months ago (post surgery) to not wanting to risk a moderate walk around the block. I described the pains and he says it is likely either a joint mouse (loose body in the knee joint) retorn cartilage, or the beginnings of bone on bone osteo arthritis. The MRI is tomorrow and then since he is away next week, the following week we will discuss the options. Probably either another arthroscope to clean out the joint or somewhat more aggresive treatment of the arthritis, depending.
His final comment was that regardless, I am at the age (mid 50's) where a lot of active men find they have to adjust to big changes in their body. All well and good but there is an 80 year old man with a history of heart attacks next door. At this point I can't keep up with him.
Nice to have a better handle on what is going on at least and for the moment to have a plan of action. Worst case with the arthritis in the next few years is probably partial knee replacement. My father in law had one of those. He said recovery was long and painful but he did recover and stayed spry into his late 70's.

Hey all....
I just wanted to make one more offer to all of you suffering with fibromyalgia.
PM me and I can get you the details on this supplement. My wife has almost no symptoms whatsoever now... she was able to get her life back.
I just want to help anyone else with this, as I can understand how this condition can rob you of your life!
