How do you pluck and/or shape eyebrows? I have tweezers, but I need some advice. I wear glasses, and with them off, I can't make out the individual hairs. It's pretty awkward, though possible, to pluck with them on, but I have no clue how to get the right shape. Also, should you trim them? Some of mine are pretty long.
I'd like to give my eyebrows a little arch, nothing too extreme, as I don't want it to be too noticeable en drab. Right now, mine are more like Andy Rooney's than I want when I'm dressed. Any tips, links, etc.?
Thanks.

You might be able to use the reading glasses found at drug stores, wal-mart, or a whole bunch of other places. Get the kind that have flip down lenses so you can flip down the one on the eye you are working on.
Get a small pair of sharp scissors (Gingher Scissors or similar)
http://63.210.199.178/01/41/1/14113.jpg ... 4&cvt=jpeg and trim the hair back.
Then get an eyebrow pencil and outline the desired shape, then pluck with a good set of tweezers.
I plucked mine a little at a time, so it's not noticable.
Remember, you can always take off more, but you can't put any back

HI,
I used to have a uni-brow that I've hated since grade school. My therapist said if I hated it why not pluck. I started plucking and took more and more over a three month period. Now after two years I have to pluck much less often, needing a touch up once a week. I like myself so much more in the mirror now. I used to scare myself with that cro-magnon look. No offense meant for those that love that uni-brow.
I got some narrow rimless magnifying reading glasses to do the plucking. I got a very narrow tweezer and pulled only one hair at a time. Be patient. No one ever made a comment about my new look. I want to remind again, don't do it all at once. Take some time and work toward the look you desire.
Hugs,
Kersten

i dont know if there are any costume or theatrical places near you, but if you really are hating yoru brows one idea is to cover them up completely and draw new ones. there are many commercial waxes available which you apply on your brows, then use a sealant to mask the wax and brow. Next when dry aply foundation over them. i have just discovered this and it really works pretty good for short periods of time. if you even type in the words 'how to cover eyebrow on google you will find make up sources. i went to a plcae that sells costumes and various entertainment theatrical make up to get the stuff i use and I want to say maybe spent $10 total with tax.

Hello, Before any plucking, I give mine a trim. Easy to do with a tooth brush and small scissors. Just start from the outside of your eyes and brush back in and upwards.(against the grain) You are actually brushing them up on to your forehead where you can easily clip all the longer ones as short as you like. I'm chicken to pluck, so I use a blade very carefully. Anyway.... Peace in joy, Ellie

Years ago, while my CD was in remission, I had tried to grow a mustache. I got a little grooming kit and the small comb included is great for eyebrows.
As Ellie mentioned, combing against the grain, the longer ones stand up and can easily be trimmed. I pluck the lightest ones to even the border lines. I haven't gotten to any shaping yet.
BTW, I can't even look at Andy Rooney anymore. His eyebrows are frightening.

I must recount a "poll" that was taken here a year or more ago. It dealt with SO's and how they responded to their Cd'ers appearance in public not dressed, en drab. but pushing the envelop so to speak, i.e., neutral nail polish, perfume, toe nail polish, a bit of eye shadow and masacre, neutral lip gloss, pierced ears. Anyway the one thing at the very top of the list as a NO NO was - yes you guessed it ------------- shaped eye brows! This is something you can not hide and it was the number one thing that GG's seemed to have the biggest concern with, so just remember, "A word to the wise!"
Yes it is one of the most defining aspects of your presentation and does significantly contribute to your feminine appearance! .... but know that the eyes are the window to the soul and to enhance that window ! Well you "get my drift!"

Hi Grace,
Grace check out some beauty supply stores in your area. Sallys is great if you have one near you. Get a makeup mirror with a 5X or greater. I wear glasses but I can see my face fine in the mirror. If your eyebrows are really like Rooneys, start trimming them gradually over a month or two and no one will notice. Take a tooth brush and brush them up toward your forehead, then trim from the end toward your nose to the end toward your ear. Then brush them straight down toward your lid and do the same thing. Shaping your eyebrown with tweezers can be tricky but there are a lot of makeup books out there that will show you how.
About 18 years ago I wanted to really get dolled up for Haloween, and I
knew a girl that was a make-up teck in a beauty salon. I just went for it.
I told her just do what ever and make me look pretty. I looked fabulous, and I never regretted doing it. I wear glases and the top eyewire rim is right at my eyeglass level so it isn't obvious.
Be the way; we "Tweeze our eyebrows, and we Pluck a Chicken".
Good Luck to you.

Eyebrow shaping is not the easiest thing to do and it does take practice to shape them properly. However, I fnd having them waxed is the easiest way as you can choose how 'feminine' you want them to appear, with a myriad of assorted shapes to choose from. When I had mine done the first time, I told the lady I was a crossdresser and wanted something a little bit feminine looking but not too obvious so ended up with something in between.
Now, in reference to Virginia's post, she hit the nail squarely on the head when she said eyebrows are the first thing women notice. Sometime after my first waxing, I started trying to shape them myself. Each time I did, they were getting thinner and thinner, which aside from giving me a more feminine appearance, made application of the eyebrow pencil a breeze. Unfortunately my wife began to notice and comment that she didn't like how they looked. No amount of explanation that putting on makeup was easier by doing that. It wasn't until we visited a GG friend who we hadn't seen in a while, who said "What have you done to your eyebrows?" that my wife's concerns were effectively validated. Lesson learned. A wife KNOWS! Since then, I've kept my shaping to a minimum and just go with the occasional waxing if we're away for a femme weekend.

I'd like to thank everyone who responded. I've hesitated to reply, since that often ends the thread, and I've learned a lot from the later posters, as well as the earlier ones.
For the record, my eyebrows are disheveled, but not really like Andy Rooney's- that was more than a little exaggeration.
I haven't been able to find the flip-down glasses, but when I was in a fancy hotel recently (in Rome, no less), they had a lighted magnifying mirror which must have been a good 5X. Anyway, it allowed me to see my eyebrows clearly without my glasses, so I think that's the ticket.
Thanks to everyone for the cautions about overdoing it. I haven't done anything yet, but again, I'm glad I waited for all the advice.

OTOH, with the metrosexual revolution, a lot of guys are waxing their brows today. The key is not to over do it -- although it someone notices you can just tell them you were cleaning up the brows and went a little too far. (And then back off a bit.) Of course, a wife is a different matter.
But I've done mine for a while and no one's ever noticed. They're still a little heavy for a GG, but lots of GGs do have thicker brows.
Plus you can use the beauty pagent technique to shape them to look neater and thiner. Take some high-control hair spray and spray it on a brow brush -- not the brows themselves. Then use the brush to shape the brows inward. The hair spray will help keep the brow hairs in place.

Hi Grace, I will agree with the others that the slow approach is the best. Personally I really hate the eye brows that look like they need a hedge trimmers to calm them down. I have just taken a small pair of sissors as others have said above and trimmed them down. I am lucky that i do not have large bushy brows.... so i do not pluck them much... just a few stray ones around the outside edges so it does not look like my brows go all the way to my ears. I have noticed that many woman have fuller brows so i just fit in i guess.
