Goth?

Post by Dallas »

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried CDing in goth? How did you do it?

I mean, it really isn't that hard. Especially a tennager like me huh? I was thinking about doing it for next year's Halloween!

I'm thinking:

- Black Hair Dye (which is what I always die it)
- Fitted T-Shirt (I'm thinking a band like Atreyu or Avenged Sevenfold)
- Plaid Mini Skirt (mid-thy)
- With black and white stripe legwarmers or hose underneath
or
- With tight black capries that come down to your knees

- Converse or Vans shoes
- A spiked choker around the neck
- Light touch of black eyeliner

What do yall think?

Hiyas! Though I'm not a CD, I have been known to dress "goth".

I think the first combination sounds good *nods*. It has that sort of "cute yet dark" thing going. Personally, I'd go with fishnets for the hose, though.

Enjoy!

I did a sort of Goth/punk look for Halloween, with a black mesh top and pleather mini from Hot Topic with fishnets and boots. I did my makeup a little heavier than usual, and used purple nail polish (because EVERYONE uses black then).

Thanks! I registered and posted a new member topic. I looked at Cathii's profile and if I didn't know any better I'd say she was goth. I love it! I used to be full time goth at school last year, but this year I've kinda not been so much. Maybe cuz of the preppy kids that make fun of people on the bus.

Also, I was thinking about buying this, but it's a little bit more money than I wanted to spend. But I guess that's what you get for shopping at the world's biggest gothic retailer.

Hot Topic Plaid Mini Skirt

Oh and this too to go under a skirt:

Black and White Striped Leggings

The skirt from Hot Topic would be good. I thought about buying one like it my self. With the leggings that you linked and a black fishnet like was shown earlier in the post with the skirt would look very goth. If you do it plese post pics.

Yeah, I really want that one alot. I'll have to get it before the holidays so that I can be secretive and my family not know what I'm up to. Genius!

I think dressing darker is quite fun sometimes, though I haven't in a while. I typically wear darker colors but not always what would be known as "goth."

Personally, for the skirt I would go with a darker colored one (with grey and that sort of color combo). Also, I really don't see the leggings going with that skirt, but that may just be me. From outfit watching at school, it seems that kind of leggings with skirts is highly prep and also only with jean skirts.

Any goth girl that wears a skirt is also usually wearing an all black one and the school girl type is more for the punk kids (however that is not a rule and it does change from person to person). Either way, anything on the legs that I see are either fishnets, knee high socks, or both.

Not neccissarily actually. Goth style vary a little from region to region. The plaid mini skirts are really big here right now. All the goth girls around here seem to own a pair of them.

But for us guys, the style doesn't really change that much. It's all like my black jeans (slightly baggy) with a band t-shirt like Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, The 69 Eyes, Nightwish, etc. Maybe a trenchcoat or combat boots every once in a while.

I don't like tripp pants. It's almost like if you have to have tripp pants to be goth, then you're not goth.Death to tripp pants!

From my traveling experiences, most style is not regional. Some styles such as cowboy clothing and that sort are, but ones like prep, goth, and punk really aren't. For instance, every Hot Topic in the country sells the same clothing styles and the website is obviously the same. I personally believe Hot Topic is more punk ( the website even says "30 years of punk" on the top).

Also, I have been to Florida recently (about 3 weeks ago) for Halloween and the goth styles I saw were exactly the same as what I see in school. Most even had clothing obviously from Hot Topic due to the brand names on the pants.

Traditionally, gothic clothing reflects the picture above with lace, some ruffles, and black and other dark colors.

I guess what I am trying to say is that while your idea is cool, it really, really sounds like a punk outfit and not so much goth. But really I'm just baseing my statement off of opinion and personal observations, but if that is what you want to wear then I guess that's all that really matters in the end.

That skirt looks fine to me! Being a little out of your price range I would suggest going to Op shops (thrift store??? dunno what they are called over there, charity clothing stores anyway!) and looking for school skirts. Ends up being much cheaper. Lipp Service/Tripp can cost an arm and a leg especially overhere with a LARGE poseur set.

Over here you don't find too many red plaid ones, but dark green plaid is VERY common. Then alter it as you wish. In the 80's we would have used a lot of D rings and chains, in the 90's zippers would have been more acceptable, Now? Some of the girls get much more creative than I could ever be. Studs, stencilling etc but always pristine and neat.

As for the stripped stockings, I would tend to go for fishnets or lace stockings. The striped ones seem to do much better with a solid colour skirt. Besides fishnets can be forgiving and if you do tear/ladder them a drop of clear nail varnish to stop the tear. A big hole in the fishnets is quite fashionable in the less formal goth world. In fact I could point to loads of girls that tear them deliberately!

The Punk/Goth thing seems to get a lot of people and quite possibly because within the subcultures of goth there is an industrial sub set. AND within the subcultures of Punk there is an industrial subset. Both could fall into either Punk or Goth and indeed much of the music is the same and much of the style is the same. It is up to the individual then to classify punk or goth.

The traditional lace styles of the 80's goth is more rightly known as the victorian goth. Quite simply the clothes a victorian goth wears are very similar to styling from the Victorian era, with bustles, kirtle skirts, external corsetry etc. This is more my niche of goth.... although I venture out into the industrial goth a lot cause lets face it vinyl is cool! Basically goth doesn't follow rules, mixing and matching is the rule of the day. I have headed out with a vinyl skirt and lacey corset, even a bright red skirt with enormous white polka dots and my vinyl cincher. You do what feels right on the night. You should have seen how I went out last night!

Goth really isn't about the fashion anyway, goth is more a mindset. Accepting others differences and having your differences accepted. Kind of like the CD world really.

So what you're saying is I'm a "poseur"?

1) I wear Tripp
2) I do NOT consider myself a goth
3) OTHER people consider me a goth.

I wear what I want to wear because

1) I like it
2) It's comfortable

Thank you oh so very much for your misperceptions. I'll be sure to add them to the pile.
