Snow
Took about an hour and a half to get home. Not bad considering folks are still on the road for over 5 hours.
The toyota avalon handled well, until I tried to get in my driveway. A little ice melt and a touch of shoveling cured that.
A mile and a little bit from home, some fool in his 4-wheel drive decided to pass me, then promptly spun out. I figured he would spin out, so I had slowed down almost to a stop beforehand, then drove around him.
Just finished clearing out the driveway to the road. Waiting for the snow plow to block it again, of course.
Very heavy wet snow, about 6 inches or so, which felled a tree in my back yard. No gas for my chainsaw, however.

Ditto, Donna . . . glad you got home safely!
In the Roanoke area the roads were salted &/or lightly graveled so they were just wet when I came home earlier this evening. The road we live on, however, was fine for the first 1 mile, thereafter it was all snow-covered and getting slicker the higher up I went, but I still had no problems driving the remaining 4.5 miles.
No problems, that is, until I tried to go up my own driveway! My Jeep Grand Cherokee just does not like to drive up our very steep gravel drive with anything more than 2" of snow (thank you, Michelin tires
), and we had ~6" by 5pm.
Yep, I got stuck, so I called Virginia to walk down and drive my truck 'home', but this time our driveway got the best of her, and she just added to the ruts I made.
Right now, my truck is at the base of the driveway, and Virginia will have to help me shovel the entire 250' length . . . there's just no way I'm going to walk up/down it in snow and cold temps, not with my asthma!
VDOT was already out and plowed our road. Our temps are supposed to reach the low 40's on Thursday, and I've got the day off.

So happy everyone is safe and sound, I have had many an many days of snow and ice in my younger years.
Now we got about 4 1/2" where Carol lives so I just put another log on the fire and pop another cold one sat back and enjoyed all my birds at the feeder
Now which corning is spring around?, I must be looking in the wrong places.

I'm really jealous of all you girls who got loads of snow. Here I am in northern Wisconsin and all we got is a dusting. We really want the snow here, we don't feel like real women unless we have 3 feet of snow to deal with
Well I'm glad you all are handling it well, and there were no disasters. But next time send the snow over here.

Hey, Ralitsa . . . you can have all our snow (which is a lot less this year vs last year!) and then some - I'm sure our DC and NY gals won't mind you taking their snow, too.
I'd rather have 85-95F days year 'round, but still live up here on my beautiful mountain . . . of course, I'd like to be enjoying a comfortable retirement with Virginia at the same time!

I was about the DC beltway...I made an escape from the office early to go in the opposite direction from home. I was going to my usual platelets donation. Sadly, I didn't pass the iron test so I was on the road an 1 1/2 hours sooner than expected so I made the best of being in the area to shop.
From there I went home and still no problems. Got home and nothing. I waited for the better half, Ro. She took nine hours to get home and she left her office in DC at 3pm. I love snow, but not when Ro is penalized like that.

I, for one, am certainly glad someone else is getting the snow for a change. We have only had about 3 feet of snow here in Wisconsin, but most of that was in late November and December. The snow bank pushed up by the plows in front of my house are nearly 4 feet high, and would be higher if we hadn't had a January thaw earlier this month.
As for driving, I do appreciate the snow. It fills in the potholes and makes the roads smoother so we can drive a little faster.
Enough of the manure, I'm really wondering how far South I'll have to move to get away from the snow. I saw that even LasVegas had snow.
