Hi All--
"Crawling in the Dark" by Hoobastank, in 2002. That song moves me very much. It's nice to be able to appreciate something from men in their 20s, and this one I really do. Beautiful lyrics, that speak to an oldster like me, and very crunchy guitar.
And as Anita, I love Concrete Blonde doing "Heal it up," from the 1993 CD "Mexican Moon." I can't find the album; the woman's name is Johnette, and she is so expressive! I used to perform this song doing lip-synch, and it was a big hit.
Thanks, Lorna--a good post.

November Rain from Guns -N-Roses. used to be a tear jerker now it is till rough but reminds me gently evrytime I hear it.
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd - The Wall Where I seem to be spending my life. Work hard, hard, hard become CN and talk with you ladies.

Wouldn't you know, that was the song I would sometimes sing to my wife when we were laying in bed when we first got together. Years later she said she liked it but did not rememr me doing that before. Heh.Carolynn wrote:Hi Lorna.I guess there are several. One new (to me) fav is: "What A Good Boy" by Barenaked Ladies
Some songs that move me:
Everybody Hurts-R.E.M.(which surprisingly it is a song telling you to hang on)
Moutains Win Again-Blues Traveler (song I would hum my daughter to sleep with.... hold on got to wipe the tear from my eye. They grow up way to fast)
World of Pure Imagination-Gene Wilder from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Not sure on real name of song but for reason see above)
Music Box Dancer-Don't know who did it but it is a piano song and it just flashes me back to my childhood for some reason.
Dreams-CranberriesOne of my step-dads favorite songs before he passed and he thought it was so cool that I downloaded it for him(back when 56k was blazing fast)
Then there are most of the songs on my wife's and I's F*** list.
The World Falls Down-David Bowie
How can I Live Without You-Trisha Yearwood
Pressure-Queen
These are the Days of Our Lives-Queen
*sniffs* sorry got another tear in my eye
Ok I got to stop before I start crying

A lot of Robert Hunter's stuff gets me dewy-eyed, but especially "Ripple", and especially the last two verses:
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music?
Would you hold it near, as it were your own?
It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Perhaps they're better left unsung
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air
(chorus)
Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of man
There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone
(chorus)
You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall, you fall alone
If you should stand, then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way, I would take you home
La da da da da, La da da da da, Da da da, Da da, Da da da da da
La da da da, La da da, Da da, La da da da, La da, Da da.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music?
Would you hold it near, as it were your own?

I went music shopping this afternoon, and I guess you can get a feel for the reach of my musical tastes from my purchases:
"Synchronicity" The Police
"Seven and the Ragged Tiger" Duran Duran
"Meteora" Linkin Park
"Crossfade" Crossfade
I'm getting ready for a little road trip, and I thought I'd try to pick up some 80s stuff. Coincidentally, they were having a sale on a bunch of 20th and 25th anniversary stuff, all of which was popular when I was in grade school/junior high. I'd been having a conversation with a coworker about converting old cassette collections to CD, and "Seven" was next on her list. I wanted it too, so I burned myself a copy, then wrapped it up to give to her. "Synchronicity" is one of my all-time Top Ten, and someone ripped off my last copy. This one's been remastered, and sounds beautiful. "Meteora" was on sale, and lately some of the lyrics have resonated for me, so that worked. Crossfade are a band out of South Carolina, and they just graduated from the local circuit to national recognition (you might've heard "Cold" on the radio). As a bonus, the last came with a free T-shirt.
Add a few other favorites to the above (Led Zeppelin, Sheryl Crow, Alice and Chains) and I'll be set.

The Police has got to be my all time favourite 80's band, followed closely by Blondie, The Jam and Yazoo! There was a lot of great stuff in the 80's.
I was lucky enough to see the Police live, on their 1982 tour, Ghost in The Machine. I saw them at Charlevoix, MI, while spending the summer with relatives who live in Michigan. 16 years old and not a worry in the world, that was a defining moment for me!
A lot of different music moves me, it is all down to what mood I'm in, and different songs evoke different memories. I don't like listening to too much old stuff as it makes me feel sad...memories past and all that.
A lot of Peter Gabriel moves me...Solsbury Hill, Games Without Frontiers, and Don't Give Up, with Kate Bush, just a few I can think of right now!
Love,
Curly(SO)
