Socks And Hosiery

Post by Joselle »

Why is is it that pantyhose and stockings have such a short lifespan?
If I were to purchase some mens socks and they fell apart after two or three wearings I would be going to get my money back for a defective product.
I know its just nylon but in this day and age they should be able to make nice hosiery that lasts awhile. Has anyone ever tried to return a pair of pantyhose or stockings after having them run after on the first wearing?

That's just the way the weave is woven on most of them. I've hosery that has lasted for well ove three wearings, and some that run when first put on.

Never tried to take any back to the store, however.

It is possible to make pantyhose last forever and that kind of hose exists but I don´t know the brand. I´ve heard that it isn´t possible to make a pantyhose look good and last long at the same time. It has something to do with the manufacturing process. You just have to be careful putting your pantyhose on and be sure you got your size right. Remember also to moisturize your heels carefully. I always wear cotton gloves when putting on my pantyhose. Some of my hosiery may last several months.

Joanna, what a wonderful idea!!!!!! Why the hell did I not think of that --Gloves!!??
I can assure you I will be going out tomorrow and buying some cotton gloves!!! I just bought three pair of what I consider expensive hose from Vicki's Secret and I have been scared to put them on for fear of a run. Now I know the secret!! See the great information we can share with each other!!! I had been filing my nails cafefully and lots of lotion and I will continue to do that, but gloves - marvelous!!!
Thanks sooooo much!

:) You´re welcome, Virginia. I´m glad I was able to help you! The cotton gloves I use are meant to be worn under rubber gloves, so they aren´t very expensive either. One very important thing I forgot to mention in my previous post is that the more a pantyhose contains lycra the better they fit and also last longer. I would say 90% nylon, 10 %lycra is minimum. Some pantyhose may contain 80%nylon,20%lycra. Don´t waste your money buying 100%nylon pantyhose! Remember also to wash them often.
