Deleting Posts - Answered

Loretta Ann didn't start this subject here I did and if it had been placed in another area of the forum other than Hot Topics (as it was) it would have been moved here.

Thankfully CJ's post answers a question about Christianity in her life that is very elaborate so the post is still very cool, but still belongs in Hot Topics.
OK, I'll ask the obvious question--if Loretta Ann did not start the thread, then how could she delete it?

Hi Anita,

If you have a post you, no matter how old, you can edit it and remove the contents. You can not delete the actual place marker for the post.

Remember Julie? She went into all of her old posts and removed the contents, so I asked her if she just wanted me to delete them instead?

I do remember Julie, and the gap she left on all the threads that she initiated. But she started those threads. Here, Loretta is saying that she did not start the thread. So how can she delete the initial post, if it isn't her post?
And if someone else started the thread, then why aren't we seeing THEIR initial post?

Hi Anita,

This is kind of hard to explain if you don't know the way this software works. So let me try again.

A post is a marker. It doesn't matter if it's at the start of a thread or not. It doesn't matter if you started the thread or not. You as a user of the board can not delete a post unless it's the last post in a thread or the first post in a thread that hasn't been responded to.

So Lorretta Ann's post is just a post. Because there was a response, she could only delete the contents in a post. Julie deleted the words from her posts (all posts) and not just the threads she started. She deleted the content within her posts and replace it with **** or something like that.

If you go to any post that you've ever written on the forum you will see an edit button where you can go in and modify the text of your post. As an admin or Mod only we can delete posts (including the marker).

Loretta Ann did not delete the initial post. She deleted the text inside of her initial post because it was her post so she had the edit button available, just like you do for every post you've ever posted. She went in and replaced her post with the wording used at the start of the thread instead of it containing what was in the post.

As an admin or mod we can split posts away from threads, the way I just did with yours for this topic. You did not start the thread, I did, but although I started the thread it has you listed as the thread starter.

Let me know if this clears things up.
