Waxing for men

Post by Marti »

This is from AOL's sign in page on grooming for men this summer.

Hair Be Gone
If you want to get rid of body hair altogether, removing unsightly follicles has never been easier, thanks to waxing.
You can exhale now. Because chances are, your coworker, neighbor or best friend are already on to this tidying tactic.
"Men's waxing is a huge business and growing at astounding rates," says Loretta Wilson, owner of Just For You salon in Tempe, Ariz., which specializes in men's waxing. Wilson says she waxes 20 to 30 men per week; that number has grown steadily over the past eight years, when she first began offering the services to guys. Last year, she saw an increase of about 25% compared with the previous year. "These days, guys are starting in high school."

Wax is most used at those hard-to-reach areas, including shoulders and even the brief line -- if you're the Speedo type, that is. If you opt for wax, prepare to return for a touch-up every four to six weeks.

I've done that too, Karren.

But I think I'll try waxing next time.

I use an epilator for almost my entire body. Works great. I'll have to try the back scratcher idea though. Thankfully I don't have much hair on my back and what is there is very fine.

How bad does the epilator hurt? I have wanted to get one but didn't know if I could take the pain. Does it thin your hair out?

I really, really need to schedule a good body waxing sometime this summer. I've had a good bit of lighter hair return from the laser epilation two years ago, and my back and tummy could certainly use it.

Hi Brandi,

I've been using an Emjoi epilator on my legs for some time. However, my leg hair is fairly light, and very sparse especially on the shanks. It hurt a bit at first, but what grows back is thin and easily plucked out by the little machine. Now it requires a two minute treatment about once a month,

I would not, repeat not, use this if your hair is heavy - unless you have a very high pain threshold. Certain not in the groin areas. The hair has to be at least 1/8" long before the thing works.

Good luck,

Lydia

Hi Ladies:

I have been using Veet for Sensative skin now for well over 3 years and have no problems.

I find no after affects, and do not have the itch that is associated with some of the other epilators.

Now that I have been totally shaved for this period of time, I will never go back to body hair again

I use Veet for waxing my legs. It stings slightly but does a good job and isn't that much more uncomfortable than any other method. It doesn't seem to regrow as fast probably because its removed by the root.

Had my legs & arms professionally waxed last week and I'm delighted with the results.

I haven't had good results with Veet or Nair, it just doesn't work for me.
I did get may legs waxed a few time when I was in Arizona last year, and was quite happy with the results. Since then I haven't really had any chance to get waxed, not many places in northern WI do it.
It's good to see that more places are doing waxing for men.

I think I need to try going to a professional. I let my girlfriend wax my chest. It didn't take long before I was bleeding, and she was crying, "I don't want to hurt you anymore!" Since then, I've stuck to my razor, but I've always wondered how much waxing hurts when it is done right.
