Back over Labor Day weekend, my wife found out I am a CDer. I think one of the reasons she took it so well is in the past I love to dress up in costumes and role-play. I would go to SciFi Conventions in costume, go and play D&D in costume, and go to Reinsurance Festival’s in costume. She sees my CD dressing just as harmless as my role-playing dressing. So I got thinking how many of us do role-play in public such as Community Theater, D&D, SciFi Conventions, and such?

I chose other because I do more then one. I like D and D as well as Ren Faires.

I love period costumes, particularly Late 19th and early 20th century. Rennaisance sounds cool too. Might have to trythat.

I never have but it sounds like fun. Some of my dressing is private role playing, stuff like wandering around in the woods at night dressed.

I never cared much for SCA but science fiction might be fun and a Viking or barbarian festival might be a lot of fun.

I love to go to Renaissance Festivals because there is at least one GG running around with only chainmail for a top and nothing under it either. Then there are the wetches that go around and plant red lipstick kisses on you belly.

Hello all: Well no, not in terms of organized "games" and such. (Would love to have a vintage 1950's/early 1960's "SUPERGIRL" outfit, though).

The closest I get to doing a "character" is that I go to protests (peace/environment/civil liberties/anti globalization/impeachment) in a cheerleader outfit and call myself the "hippie cheerleader." Several of the outfits are political; for instance one has a peace sign on the front, and since I am now a "card carrying" member of the GREEN PARTY," I also have a bright kelly green and white cheer outfit. But sometimes I'll just wear an outfit inspired by the cheerleader uniforms at my old high school and add a peace sign pendant along with a political button or two. (and to give the ensemble just a bit more hippie ambience, I'll wear a poncho or jean jacket over it-- ponchos are really cute over cheerleader uniforms!)

I did wear a cheerleader outfit to a ren fair a few years ago-- that was fun. The closest I can get to a ren fair "wench" ensemble is a sort of "hippie girl" look-- peasant top, tiered skirt, "mirror skirt," fringed moccasins or hiking shoes or "earth tone" colored fuzzy boots.

I have read about the phenomenon of "COSPLAY," where people dress in "anime/manga" inspired costumes. Apparently this includes a fair amount of cross dressing.

Has anyone else noticed the large cross-over between the "T" community and the science fiction/fantasy/comix community?
